Paying Penance

4.5 stars - Arianna sets the tone for her forced marriage to Killian from the first "introduction" and it is one of rebellion and sass. Oh, Killian is really in for it with her! The tension between them is SKY HIGH.

Brutal Defender is the eighth book of the Mafia Wars series and the third book about the O’ Malley family. This book had it all, arranged marriage, enemies to lovers, drama and steam. Maggie always does a great job making the reader get hooked on the story and this book is no different! I loved Killian and Arianna’s story. They both hated each other at first but their chemistry is off the charts. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Brutal Defender by Maggie Cole is an enemies to lovers dark mafia romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Kelsey Navarro and Lance Greenfield. This is the eighth book in the Mafia Wars series. The book can be read as a standalone but the stories are interconnected.

I absolutely love Maggie's books! She does an amazing job pulling me into the story. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Killian and Arianna. I really enjoyed getting both of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

I can't wait for the next book in the series Deviant Hacker to be released on December 1, 2021 so I can get Declan's story.

Kelsey and Lance did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book you if you love arranged marriages, age gap romances, dark romances, mafia romances, or romantic suspense.

With this book we have arranged marriage trope. Which is so amazing considering it is a staple in any Mafia Romance series. This situation is so perfect for these two and watching them spark off of each other was amazing. Arianna is a mafia princess and spoiled woman in the Italian Mafia in New York.

There was crazy antics between this couple and at times it could have been a bit over the top. There were times that I wanted to throw the my ipad against the wall because of these two. like any good arranged marriage, there comes a time when the switch gets flipped and things get real. Killian and Arianna were explosive from the start whenever they got together and watching them grow throughout the story was great.

An arrangement that neither wanted but went along with for their own personal gains.
They push, they pull, they fight.
Arianna is a bit of a loose cannon and she jumps to the worst conclusions. Killian has a mouth that always gets him in trouble for speaking before thinking.
Combine the two and your in for fierce fights and hotter than sin makeups.
These two know nothing about each other when they meet but start to peel back the layers they both hide behind to see the person they married.
When they both start to try to work towards the relationship, they realize that they are exactly what the other wants.

Brutal Defender is book 3 in the O'Malley series and Killian's turn to tell his story. A debt he takes on to help his brother, becomes an arranged marriage to the mob princess Arianna. Something what both of them didn't want, but needed to do for one word...family. We have seen Killian bury himself into our hearts from the very beginning of the Mafia Wars series, and the love for him has just gone from strength to strength. We see a different side to him in this book though, yes he is as volatile, and as protective as his brothers and cousins, but he also has somewhat of a comedic side to him, which is refreshing. The buildup of Killian's and Arianna's relationship is back and forth but is so hot and loving at the same time...i absolutely loved it!

Arranged marriage between two mafia families, one Irish and one Italian. The first thing they could agree on was they never saw themselves marrying someone that was not from the same nationality.

Killian and Ariannas marriage is a means to settle a debt for him and ensure protection for her. This arranged marriage starts out as nothing more than insane chemistry and slowly starts to build into a relationship. In true Maggie fashion, this book captured my attention and refused to let it go!

- "I'm not letting you divorce me because you're my wife. I made a vow to you. And if I fuck something up, I'll make it right. But you don't get to quit on me. I don't quit on you, and you don't quit on me. And I'll be damned if you move to New York, so get it out of your head."

Love this series!!!

Killian and Arianna’s story was beautifully written. The smexy scenes were hot. And the comedy in this book really made me LOL. Can’t wait for Declan’s story.
