Re-read to prepare for the novella releasing in November!

Can't believe I had forgotten so many details and wonderful lines
Spoiler how did I forget all of Ch.6 when Jude tells us the horrifying tales of faerie and her finger being bitten off?!
. This book is a damn treasure.

UM OKAY WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED. THE LAST 40% OF THIS BOOK MADE ME STAY UP UNTIL 5AM UNTIL I WAS DONE LISTENING TO IT. I JUST STARED OUT MY WINDOW THE WHOLE DAMN NIGHT. MESMERIZED.

I love how layered this title is, and my interpretation of just exactly who The Cruel Prince referred to switched several times as I was reading.

Some quotes that cut to my core:

"Mortal lives are one long game of make-believe. If you couldn't lie to yourselves, you'd cut your own throats to end your misery."

"The odd thing about ambition is this: you can acquire it like a fever, but it is not so easy to shed."

"Desire is an odd thing, as soon as it's sated, it transmutes."

EXCUSE ME WHILE I PREPARE FOR A DAY OF SCHEMING SUMMER TEACHING NOW ON NO SLEEP - I MEAN I KNOW I NEED TO SLEEP BUT HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO?

Spoiler As I said in my review of We Hunt the Flame , I am obviously bloody THRILLED that Jude and Cardan's courtship began with her blade at his throat. And they still can't fully trust each other. This is PEAK romance for me. (I ONLY LIKE THIS IN FICTION OK?! I AM PERFECTLY SANE).

It IS annoying that Jude with all her teenager brilliance was able to figure out every plan, but alas, characters serve at the pleasure of the plot. At least she's not indecisive or overly mushy so I'll take her sudden bouts of hey-I-immediately-connected-things-that-immortal-beings-have-failed-to-grasp-for-years. Also FUCK Taryn. And FUCK Locke. At least Madoc is consistently Machiavellian. FUCKING LOVE VIVENNE THOUGH! Oriana is cool too, but I still don't quite trust her.

Aside from the final plot twist (which I knew would happen) I am utterly shaken in my socks (which need to be turned inside out) at the rocket-pace of the action. No gifs here because I lost my damn mind and need to recover. As Cardan said: "I need to be drunk to face the rest of it."

I adore the creepy vibes. This is how a fae world should be depicted. There's cruelty, and different magical affinities and abilities. The world-building and scenery is wonderful, as is the political intrigue. I AM HOOKED. SO GLAD THIS LIVED UP TO THE HYPE.

Spoiler I wasn't expecting the interplay of the modern human world either but that was a pleasant surprise, and I was wary of how well it would work without seeming too forced or cheeky or cheesy, but it somehow did not seem too weird to hear Jude say she brought things from Target to Hollow Hall.

Thank goodness I started this trilogy after all the books were published. And thank goodness I have the other two on my Kindle and don't need to wait for the library. Now, all I need is some sleep before I dive into The Wicked King.

Damn. THE DRAMA. The complex characters and uneasy relationships. The backstories. The layered political plots. I could go right into Book 2 and 3 for the fourth time but then I'll never read or write all the other things I want to. I'm so happy I discovered these books in my lifetime and that I have the same joy when rereading. Literally impossible for me to pick my favorite from the three books in this trilogy. They all are perfectly plotted and in tune. Can't wait until I re-read these again since maybe reading the series twice a year is my new tradition

I read the Folk Of Air series in less than two weeks, so I am going to review the series altogether because everything is blurred, lol. I loved everything about this series. It's unlike fae books I've read recently, as not all fae are humanoid and gorgeous. I appreciated how lush the world was. I would describe this series as fantasy with a romance, not a fantasy romance. The plot could stand alone without the romance, which is why I enjoyed it so much. I was desperate for the romantic bits and preferred that over being bored by them. I also tire of the damsel in distress storyline, and Jude was no damsel. She was fierce and mean and cunning. She was the true hero of this, and I want to be the hero of my own life, not be saved by a man. Cardan was cruel in the beginning, but the fact that underneath it all, he was soft and desperate for Jude was absolutely fantastic to me. I loved that he didn't want to kill, and Jude was the deadly one. This was a world I didn't want to leave, and I can't wait to see what happens in the spin-off series by the author.
