Ok Ok I have put off writing this review long enough. This is the 3r'd time reading this book but first time in audio and I am just now getting around to reviewing... I know for shame.. but its my favorite book so far all way to book 11 which I have read. So I don't want to mess up my review.

JM has found his female she isn't conventional and she isn't "girly girly" she is a fighter. Xhex come's into JM life like a thunderbolt to his chest. The moment he sees her he just knows she is going to change his life.

Now this book starts when Xhex was kidnapped by Lash. The flaming turd lets be frank he tortured her and beat her and anything else you can think of. She was not a quitter by any means. Lash cloaks her so no one can find her and she can't get out.

There is a scene in the book where JM is literally in the same room as her he can feel her but he can't see her. She can see him and watches him break down. It's heart-wrenching.

JM isn't dealing with her being gone and even tries and gets away from Qhuinn. I won't go into all that but listening to this book play out you get to see JM be a warrior, Xhex be a fighter a warrior and a survivor.

I loved all the little subplots in this book as well we get to see some of what Darius was like and how Xhex came to be.

I am so glad I am in this readers group and experiencing BDB in a whole new light. <3

The Gregg/Holly storyline was completely unnecessary. The story between Darius/Tohr also felt tedious.

This is my favorite so far. That's saying a lot since I didn't like the idea of these two together, but I have to admit that the story was great. How she tied up the loose ends of the story made the ending very satisfying.
Well, off to read the next installment. :)

I don't know if it's the writing style or the characters that I just can't connect with, listened to half and just can't anymore.

Sins
* 74 instances of dumbass slang, e.g. "sitch" instead of "situation" and "addy" instead of "address" and the use of the word "bromance" non-sarcastically.
* 10 instances of the work "frickin'" when you CLEARLY have no problem using the word "fuckin'" Don't be a wimp. With cursing as with life, go big or go home.
* 6 instances of "something-landia"... I'll let it slide once, but this is really annoying.
* 11 instances of "What's doing?" - NO ONE FUCKING SAYS THIS! THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE SENTENCE! STOP IT! *whacks JRW with a newspaper* Bad author!
* 26 instances of verbing a noun, e.g. "Why don't I just hood-ornament it..."
* 20 instances of annoying pop-culture references. My favorite (which also doubles as verbing a noun): "The pain in Gregg's head made him think someone had Basic Instincted his temples..."
* 23 instances of uuuunnnnnnnnnecessary extra letters. This was soooooo fucking annoying.
* All language in the Darius/Tohrment backstory, which is so absurdly archaic that it passes annoying and goes straight to ludicrous.
*
SpoilerHow Xhex getting rapes somehow makes everyone feel sorry for John... WTF.

* The sex scenes between John & Xhex. The language literally made me gag. Some highlights: "erection the size of an I-beam" and "her core weeping for him."
* Mocking Blay for using proper spelling and grammar in his texts. THAT'S HOW EVERYONE SHOULD TEXT!!! The dumbass indecipherable shorthand is what should be mocked.
* Stupid language choices: "NHP. Not. Her. Problem." - Unless Xhex makes a habit of thinking in 3rd person this should technically be "NMP. Not. My. Problem."
* The word "shitkickers"

Redeeming Characteristics:
* John/Xhex - I really like this pairing. Especially since it's been built up over a couple of books and so avoids the romance trope of "I just met you and this is crazy, but let's get hitched now and I'll have your baby."
SpoilerAnd the fact that Xhex doesn't immediately change her personality and become a "good little female." The romantic high point (for me anyway) is when they kill Lash together! *sniff sniff*

* Lassiter - I like this guy. I really do.
* Qhuinn/Blay - These two break my heart. I just want them to have nice things, okay?
* A couple truly amusing passages: e.g. (after offering to help the doggen in the kitchen) "Before spinning heads led to burned dinner and possible mass suicide, he left the pantry"

Overall verdict - the story itself was a solid 4, but the obnoxious language brings it down to a 3. Easily my favorite in the series so far.

I think I overloaded on BDB. Probably should not have read them all in a row like that. J.R. Ward just got too blah for me. I was extremely bored in places and even skipped over paragraphs which I never do! I did enjoy John and Xhex's relationship though. There were some really good twists and suprises in this one as well. And what's up with Mhurder?? I only figured that out right before Xhex did. I did not see it coming with Xhex's mother either. Nice twist. So needless to say, I will be waiting to read the next book, even though it is the last one until the next book comes out next year. I can't take anymore of her writing at the moment.
