A cute, simple little story! Like with the first, it chooses its battles and is only trying to do a few things, but I think it does those things well. Without the theme of motherhood, this one feels a little less unique than the first one, but it has more emotional weight and is more enjoyable to read. Kaeldra is alone except for dragon babies for a long long time in the first book, and it creates a unique atmosphere and theme, but in my opinion it left it feeling a little empty. The side characters in this book are lovely, and even the romance is sweeter and feels more natural.
SpoilerSide note, Kazan at one point is ready to commit regicide for Kara and I love that for him lmao.

Oh man, I didn't realise how much I didn't want to read about Kara's story until I started reading this instalment. Uggggh.

It felt like this took so long to read.

Read this in junior high. A quick read, but set in an interesting universe where green-eyed women--in this book, Kara--are able to speak with birds and dragons. This is the first book in the storyline even though it was published later, and I found it easier to start with this one than the "first" in the trilogy. Good for a younger audience.

Probably more like 3 stars, but it gets an extra star for nostalgia, as I loved this book as a child. Possibly a better review to follow...

I enjoyed this sequel much more than the first book in the series! I thought that Kara was a more interesting character and the world she inhabited seemed a bit more filled out, plus the writing seemed to have improved slightly from the previous volume. Getting to know more about the events that set everything in book 1 in motion made this an enjoyable story in and of itself as well as a helpful companion to Dragon's Milk.

The first book introduced a world with a lot of history that is mentioned in bits and pieces. This book goes back and tells that story. Which I didn't know I wanted until I started. Now I really hope the next one is in between, or after the first one... actually this world is interesting and I'll read them all.

Oh. My. Gosh. I have been looking for this book for a million years (serious, like, ten). I couldn't recall the title or the author; I just knew there were dragons and i loved it. I could never find the rest of the series or even another copy of this book. I can't believe I found it!!

I'm not sure whether I enjoyed this more than book one or about the same. I mean, I love birds a lot too ("My friend Angie likes birds" is a popular quote among my friends), AND there's dragons? What's not to love? Yet I feel there were many opportunities to turn it into something more. Perhaps the character development could have been explored more. Oh, by the way, this is the story of Kara, who is mentioned in "Dragon's Milk" as the green-eyed girl raised by a dragon who was able to safely lead the dragon kyn to a new land to live. So we know all this going into the book, having read book 1, so maybe that's what took some of the joy out of it. Either way, it was still a great and enjoyable read. Onto book 3!
