This one took a lot of concentration to get through the audiobook. I found my attention wandering more than usual.

Part of it was Vicky & Griffin back in action. Up until now, the books feature a new couple, with previous characters popping in. For example, Rocky & Devlin show up to lend a hand in this one.
Don't get me wrong, I love series ... and continuing storylines. It just threw me for a loop.

I knew they were staying in Boston after Alex got attacked ... and now he's missing. Once again, Vicky's knowledge of Boston and the surrounding comes in handy. Random attacks and murdered women get connected, and the race is on to find where Alex is, and stop the cult from carrying out further attacks.

I really enjoyed how Vicky is becoming more confident, and Griffin is doing his best to not only support her, but protect her as well.

Lizzy Borden's house is a stop along the way, which is an interesting side note. Highlighting a witch story not set in Salem was interesting as well.

Fun continuation! I'm hoping we see more of Vicki in the future. And what can I say I'm a sucker for weird cult mysteries.

Yeah, this book was so great! Plus, it was different that it stars the same couple for another book, and there's Wicked Deeds, too! So fantastic, and I can't wait to read more!

Most important to notice is that this is Book 2 in a trilogy that centres around Vicky and Griffin. While this is a standalone book, it makes a lot more sense and is more enjoyable when you read the previous book (Dying Breath) first. This is the first time that Heather Graham has built a trilogy around the same main pairing and it is actually quite satisfying to follow a specific pair over more than one book. I mean, yes of course, pairings pop up in other installations of the series, but we haven't followed one pairing like this. The case is very fascinating and I enjoyed the process of solving it. I wasn't as much of a fan of Vicky in this one as I was in the last, but it was still a great book!

I wanted to like this book. This is the second book in this series I've read, and I specifically picked up this title because it was set in Boston. (I lived in Boston for 15 years). However, it reads very much like the author has never been to Boston.

1) She mentions Harvard University like it's walking distance from downtown Boston. Harvard is across the river in Cambridge. While it is walkable, it would take 60-90 minutes minumum, longer depending on your pace.

2) Vicki and Devin walking along Tremont St because they don't want to drive. Ever heard of the MBTA? (I understand why they were walking in relation to the plot, but not even a mention of the MBTA as an option???)

3) Fanuiel Hall does not have a coffee shop you could comfortably listen to music. There's a Starbucks, but it's barely big enough for a few tables. And having worked at that very specific Starbucks for two years, we never brought drinks to the patrons at those tables. There is another Starbucks a block away, but it's arguably not Fanuiel Hal Marketplace. The Marketplace has bars, restaurants, and shops aplenty, but no other coffee shops.

So, yeah... please do more research on cities you're setting your stories. Or at least mention certain liberties have been taken to meet the story needs.
