It's pretty useful. I like a lot of the advice, it's probably geared more towards contemporary fiction writers but in general it seemed like a lot of valuable exercises that I will probably work through more slowly as practice.

Went through this on quickly. I had a go at a few of the exercises, but didn't really take much time with it. Might have to go through this again at some point.

It was ok, really useful at times. Feels a little dated. Makes a lot of suppositions about sexuality and gender without honoring the creative outlet that exploring those topics and turning them on their head can be. A good tool for someone truly stuck or who thinks they have stories to tell but nowhere to start.

A great textbook for the Intro to Creative Writing class I was in. Gives some great tips for getting the creative juices flowing and some good points and examples. Keeping a journal with the reading of this book turned out to be really helpful.

I didn't find this book helpful for me as a writer or for my writing students. Some of the exercises are nice, but there was just so much in this book that wasn't useful or worth reading through.
