This was slow going. The first 280 pages were very dull and I only got caught up in the story in the last hundred pages. Too much attention was focused on irrelevant details and history when it should have been centred on the actual murder, the father’s madness and the history behind that psychology. Could have been so much better as a novella, or could have worked if the last one hundred pages were drawn out and not focused on maman’s pregnancies and death (as that really had no relevance).

This book had me completely wrapped around its fingers. I could not put it down! I absolutely loved how you saw every detail, felt all the tension ripple through the pages and draw you deeper into what can only be described as a slow descent into madness. I would highly recommend this book, and the twists and turns are absolutely enthralling!
