A truly decent, spooky, gothic read. Nothing to write home about but a very enjoyable experience.

Set in the fens in deep Suffolk, this is a story about superstition, religion and the intermingling of the two.

Staring Maud, an intelligent, adventurous girl stifled by her discipliarian father, it’s a twisty tale which brings both of them face to face with their greatest fears.

A perfect read for October.
