4 Stars // Well, this was my first Murakami. And what can I say - I really enjoyed it. Before going into this one, I basically knew nothing about Murakami other than that it sounded really educated to drop his name when being asked what you’re reading at the moment. I chose this one as my first book of big author, as it is a short-story collection all surrounding the topic of Desire.

The 5 short-stories in this book then are all quite quirky and ever so slightly ‘imginative’ in their own way, something that I have now learned in my research is somewhat of a staple of Murakami. They are all grounded in our real world, but describe sceneries that have almost a cinematic feeling to them. In the first short story, for example we follow a young couple that wakes up in the middle of the night, absolutely STARVING. And, as all the bakeries are closed, they decide to, well, rob a McDonalds. And so all of a sudden you are almost in like a heist movie following these two ’normal people’ robbing a fast food joint for a quick bite.

I give this 4 stars, as, overall, this was a really entertaining and a short read. I really enjoyed Murakamis wide interpretation of the theme ‘Desire’ and his characters and plots are all really imaginative. So, suffice to say, this definitely wasn’t my last Murakami.
