With a delightful cast of characters, Karen Witemeyer's second venture into Harper's Station does not disappoint! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the threads of the story come together in a tale that weaves sweet humor and just enough tension to keep me turning page after page!

Enjoyed listening to this second book in the Ladies of Harper's Station series. The characters were memorable and the narrator did a great job of bringing each one to life. I liked the intelligence of the characters and their personalities. The mystery was good too. It's a quick read with lots of action and a sweet romance.

I enjoyed this book, but it didn't feel like anything really that special.
I never really understood why Grace fell in love with Amos. I mean, yeah, he was nice enough. He did try to rescue her. He just kind of came off as a bit of a bumbling idiot.
It felt like this book had the primary protagonists (Grace and Amos) and then a secondary protagonist (Helen, one of the other women in Harper Station). Honestly, I would've preferred a book coming just from Helen's point of view because I preferred reading about her relationship with Lee. The parts with Helen and Lee felt reminiscent of Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman, so those scenes just felt more... nostalgic? And Lee was just WAY sweeter than Amos, anyway.

Grace Mallory hasn't had the easiest life. After witnessing the murder of her father and receiving his message to get away quickly, Grace finds herself in Harper's Station. She's at least found peace and comfort in her little community, made up mostly of women. She enjoys her job as the telegraph operator and finds her evenings to be entertaining by a mystery man corresponding with her on the other end of the line.
Amos Bledsoe is a simple man, one who enjoys his job as a telegraph operator. He prefers his bicycle over a horse any day and can't wait until his mom and sister leave him alone about finding the perfect woman. When he hears a distress call come over the line, he can't help but run to the aid of his "Miss G".
This was a super intense read that only took me a few hours to complete. I read this during my "anniversary weekend" and loved a few of the comparisons between the characters and my husband and I. We, like Amos and Grace, met "online". Our online meeting was more modern than what Grace and Amos experienced, but fun nonetheless. There is also a bit of an age gap between us all. Not that I mind, and I don't think Grace did either. We also all have a deep love for the Lord, which is above all importance.
I very much enjoyed the story of Amos and Grace and look forward to hearing more about their future. The secondary story line of Helen and Lee is also exciting and I can't wait to see how their relationship grows! I'm very much looking forward to the next book in this series! January 2, 2018 will be the release date of Hearts Entwined!
Thank you to Bethany House Publishing and Karen Witemeyer for providing a complimentary copy of this book to review on NetGalley. The thoughts you have read are my own opinions on this book.

I do believe that Karen Witemeyer is my favorite author in the Christian historical fiction genre. She has this balance of faith and humor that I just love. While I’ve enjoyed all of her books, I think the Ladies of Harper’s Station series is my favorite of her work. The idea of a town made up entirely of women, and run by those women is an interesting concept, especially in the Wild West era of American history. Harper’s Station is a safe haven for all of womankind, whether they’re on the run or looking for a fresh start or are simply uncomfortable around men.
Of course, Witemeyer is a romance author, so of course the town doesn’t stay completely free of men. But the men that insinuate themselves into Harper’s Station are good men, morally upright and dependent on God. The community accepts them based on these attributes, and they more than pull their weight while still giving the women plenty of room to lead their own lives and run the town as they see fit.
This is the story of Grace Mallory, a telegraph operator on the run. She finds a home and a family in Harper’s Station, but trouble has tracked her down. Amos Bledsoe, another telegraph operator, has fallen in love with Grace over the line, where they can chat after business hours. Amos overhears an urgent message for Grace, telling her that her pursuers have located her and are coming for her. He makes a spur of the moment decision to come to Grace’s aid and to meet her in person.
This book had much to offer. It was encouraging and uplifting regarding faith. The Christian element in this book wasn’t just something tacked on to story so that it fit into the genre. The faith in this book was real, something that was struggled with and leaned upon when times are tough. It permeated every aspect of life to these characters, which I appreciated. The book was also full of mystery and intrigue. Though the plot twists weren’t surprising, they were always fun to read. And as with all of Witemeyer’s stories, it was really funny, especially when it came to etiquette. Breaches of etiquette in stories set in this time period can be hilarious, and Witemeyer has just the right amount of tongue-in-cheek humor with these lapses.
Was the book predictable? Yes. Was it sparkling with originality? No. Was the prose rich and cerebral and deep? Nope.
But it was sweet and fun and made me laugh. It encouraged me in my faith and made me sigh at the sweetness of the love found within the pages. This book was exactly what I needed when I picked it up, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre!

From cover to cover I liked this book. Karen Witemeyer has once again woven a tale of romance that includes suspense and wit. Her characters are people you feel like you know and her word choices and descriptions make you feel as if you are transported back in time and to different locations. Heart on the Line had this reader's heart from beginning to end.
I liked Grace Mallory from the get-go. She's intelligent, loyal, and feisty. She's also very girl-next-door and someone that I think I would get along with in "real life". I also, from the very get-go liked Amos Bledsoe, the hero of the book. Thank you, Karen, for giving us nerdy girls a hero that we can totally relate to and swoon over. Amos isn't full of muscles and brawn but he has brains, a heart of gold, and a loyalty to Grace that is so sweet to read about. I loved reading about their meeting over the telegraph wires and how it progressed into a friendship and more. Their friendship had a very natural progression and wasn't rushed or forced. I rooted for this couple throughout the book.
This book was such an easy one to read. The story is good and solid and is told at the perfect pace. There is never a moment to be bored with the goings on in Harper's Station. The descriptions are great and made me feel as if I were there.
I highly recommend this book to fans of historical fiction and romance. If you've never read a Karen Witemeyer book this one would be a great one to begin with. Although this is the second book in the Ladies of Harper's Station series it completely stands on its own. Don't wait. Pick up your copy today!
