This is not a book I would have ever picked out myself to read, even after reading the first few pages I wasn't sure that not only I could read it but that I wanted to. Yet it didn't take to much longer to get interested in Sarah and her life. It is emotional roller coater but yet realistic for the most part. It had some indecent scenes but that is what many lived through than, and unfortunately now too. I loved Sarah's strong character willing to take on the world attitude. I think all too often many have tunnel vision and think I can only do this one thing and can't do anything else. If only there were more people as hard working as Sarah and many of her loved ones. I would recomend it to anyone that can handle a realistic adventurous love story!

Some books, you love and read as fast as you can. Other books you savor every moment. This was a book to savor, a fascinating look at a young woman's life and the trials & joys.

I kept putting it down and comparing to my daily concerns and complaints ~ frogs, snakes, guns, outlaws ~ not hardly.

I strongly recommend it to anyone interested in that time period and the transition all of us make in our lives as we grow.

In all honesty, I did not think I would like reading this book. I started it and after the first couple pages, just wasn't interested. I forced myself to keep reading it because it's different from anything else that I've read and I wanted to challenge myself.
Well, I am glad that I kept reading. I did get into this book and the life of Sarah and her family. I felt like an extended family member reading this book and felt every emotion she described. I myself couldn't have lived and survived in her lifetime. I do appreciate reading about the struggles she faced and how she dealt with them. I feel like I've learned from her about being a wife and a mother and I see from how she lived her life, where I could make positive changes in mine. Definitely has given me some things to think about.
If you're considering reading this book, I would highly recommend it. It wasn't anything like I thought it would be. It was better.

I absolutely loved this book. Sarah is such a strong character and her diary was a wonderful way to watch her learn and grow as well as get a bit of insight into what it was like in AZ in the late 1800s. So good. I'll definitely read another book by Nancy Turner.

This book is a very compelling fictional account of a young woman who journeys across the country by covered wagon and eventually settles in Arizona in the late 19th century. I was taken in by the woman's bravery and her commitment to learning.

Loved this story. While Sarah annoyed me with her naivety during the first part, I found her believable and very likable. I wanted good things to happen for her.
****SPOILER ALERT*****
My favorite scene in the book? When Sarah decides to get rid of Felicity once and for all. Classic!

It's a testament to how captivating this story is that I was able to survive the audiobook narrator.
The second worst I've ever listened to (anyone else that's tried to listen to Radium Girls knows what I'm talking about)
But that's no fault of the author. The story is a little disjointed, the title feels icky now that I know what it's about, but overall I was gripped.
