Loved this sequel to Labyrinth Lost!
Lula is the narrator of this book, which was jarring at first (because I just loved Alex so much) but you will adjust quickly. This book starts fast and the pace is maintained through the book. I couldn’t put it down.

More magic, more sisters, more awesome. Read it. Buy as soon as you can!

-thank you netgalley for the arc

This was an excellent continuation of Zoraida Córdova's Bruja series. The characters were still recovering from the previous book when the heroine of this story, Lula, does something unforgivable and yet human to save her boyfriend. With the help of both old and new characters, Lula and her sisters fight to fix the disastrous result of her choice and the havoc it is wrecking on New York. It is a complex and intriguing book and I found myself like and relating to Lulu more than I expected after the first book. I'm waiting anxiously for the final book in the series!

Bruja Born far exceeds Labyrinth Lost in pretty much every way. To start, Lula’s motivations and trauma are much more relatable and clear. She is a character that has been scarred, both physically and emotionally by the events of the last book, and this second book focuses a lot on her processing her trauma.

The plot is instantly propulsive, and expands the Brooklyn Bruja world while keeping the story much less fanciful, and much more localized. There’s a lot of heartbreak here, and it was difficult to put down. The conclusion was satisfying, albeit a bit without the acknowledgement of some of the absolutely heinous things that happen as a result of Lula’s actions. The consequences here are far more dire than the last book, and it does feel like some of that gets swept under the rug.

Highly enjoyable though, and I’m eager to see how Rose’s story closes out the rest of the trilogy.

I love the family dynamic and the fictional magical traditions in this series. This second installment was terrifically creepy, and I felt like the storyline was tighter than in Labyrinth Lost. I appreciated, too, that the author didn't force a romance into the story that would have been completely unconvincing, leaving us instead with possibilities for future stories. Solidly enjoyable.

"My body is different and strange and new to me, and I have to be kind to it. I have to learn this new version of myself and love her like she deserves."

Lula Mortix takes center stage in this second installment! Lula's always been a healer. A fixer. But when death takes the life of her boyfriend and several classmates, Lula becomes a fighter. She casts a dark spell to bring Maks back... but soon struggles to fix all the unintended consequences.

A wonderful and exciting story picking up where the first book left off. Lula makes the mistake of a century and finds herself in hot water. Well herself, her family, her boyfriend and the city of New York all in a big boiling pot of hot water. And we are also introduced to the other supernaturals in this world. Teenagers, SMH. Lol
