This one is my least favorite of the Mitford books (at least the original nine), although I still adore it. It just feels less like coming home and more like a stop on the way.

That is not a bad thing, at all! I still absolutely recommend this series...and this book...this particular installment simply feels a little bit melodramatic at times. That may simply be my opinion, however. The third one is one of my all-time favorite books, so I can't wait to get to that one!

A heartwarming and cozy winter story. Cynthia and Edith are relentless and unbearable at times. The discovered truth about cousin Meg is funny! Lots of laugh out loud funny moments, just like in book 1.

This one was slow. Can't say I didn't like it, but saying I like it may be a bit too strong. Wanted to finish it though in the hopes that the next one is better.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved reading about characters I knew and I felt the plot was enjoyable. I appreciated the nuances.

The second book was definitely better than the first, still a little good to be true but I knew all the characters this time, so it was a better moving plot without the details of introductions.

Enjoyed this installment of the series. I just wish I could like Cynthia more. She seemed so needy in this book, is relentless in her pursuit of poor Father Tim and gets angry about nothing - childish actually. Other than that, it's fun to see Dooley grow up and I never tire of hearing Miss Sadie's stories.

I was expecting this to be a 4 star for me - and overall, I really do enjoy these stories. I just found the on again/off again of Timothy & Cynthia tiresome - and in particular, her moodiness was so extreme it seemed like a different person at times. It all ended well, and I'll continue to read the series - but this one required a bit of stamina.
