My first Chimamanda. What an amazing writer. Interesting to read after The Sellout as it also addresses racism in America - but in such a different way.

I don’t typically like literary fiction, it’s not super my speed but this was very well written and it’s obvious that Adichie is a master at writing a good, solid, realistic character. This is a solid story about identity and understanding yourself and the main character immigrating first form, then back really plates the whole story so well.

This was a good book. It took me a while to read it but it was still enjoyable. It gave me a view into a different perspective than what I'm typically use to.

I've got a lot of conflicting feelings about this book so until I sort them out this is all I'm going to put for now.

I didn't expect to enjoy this book as much as I did, or to get so invested in its characters. As it is, nothing much happens outside the regular, uninteresting life events of Ifemelu and Obinze, but Adichie's writing is  compelling and thought-provoking. The story makes the reader consider race in American society and the myriad ways in which racial lines are drawn and crossed. Although some parts felt bogged down in dialogue, the book overall is beautiful in its honesty and passion.
