Walking the Path was a decent introduction to a new sci-fi graphic novel series, if not a good one. The lush colors made viewing the panels pleasurable and the environments both planet-side and space-side were interesting. The central concept of the novel, which is set against a backdrop of a few closely-located alien planets, is that a massive corporation and the galaxy's largest religion have some sort of nefarious backdoor dealings going on with each other, much to the ignorance (or apathy) of the general galactic population.

The biggest issue I had with the volume was that it was too transparent about its messages. I can, however, give this a pass considering the difficulty of walking that line between batshit incomprehensible world-building and beat-you-over-the-head-with-a-mallet world-building. Volume one without ANY prevarication fell into the latter category, much to its detriment, but like I said, it's a difficult balance.

I do, however, expect and require more detailed character building and more complex, mysterious plotting going forward. If that doesn't happen in volume 2, I'm very likely to tap out of the series.

Wow. I am now somewhat sorry that I slept on this series when it debuted last year. (Not sorry because I got to binge 5 issues almost in one go.) This is amazing. I love the worldbuilding, both overt and subtle. I love the characters. And I love the art. Christian Ward's space is entirely too colorful, and I LOVE IT. It's like there's a nebula in the background of every other shot, and spaceships and engine trails are all bright and beautiful. I love the aesthetic. The plot that Wilson has laid out is just revving up and I am ready to strap in and enjoy the ride.
