a very good book, especially considering when it was written. it was way ahead of its time. the characters were incredibly realistic. they were lovable but definitely flawed. this book could’ve been nonfiction because of how real and natural the characters and plot were.

Say it with me - classics don’t equate to dead white men!
This was my first classic take on Ms. Zora Neale Hurston’s novel (I vaguely remember the title from high school / college but I remember nothing from those readings lol) Anyway, pairing the physical with the audio assisted with the Southern wording especially when it came to the dialogue. But I enjoyed this for being what it was which is a book about a woman who enters three distinctly different marriages but is trying to find herself even in her older age. The ending was a little abrupt for me but I recommend this for those that are looking to dip yourself into classics from the early 1900’s that are written by bipoc individuals.

Their Eyes Were Watching God is a good book about the life of Janie. It covers important messages of unequal power balances, jealousy, and unfairness. Covers a wonderful story about finding love and what you want in life. Good book altogether, just wasn’t my type.

I had to read this for my college English class and this book is great and it had a crazy ending! I gave it a 3/5 stars because although the plot/story is good I couldn’t get past the horrible dialogue. I was having a really hard time understanding the speech. I eventually did figure most of it out but sometimes I had to read the sentences multiple times just to understand.
