A real laugh-out-loud read with a very dark theme. All the characters including the animals--characters in their own rights--are wacky but really believable. The two heroines have different approaches and ways of coping in relation to their early traumas. Big Swiss makes no excuses, and does not want to be seen as a victim (although she must be in the community) while Greta cannot move on and feels she has slept though her 20s and 30s. Themes include the need for friendship, effects of dishonesty, consequences of choices and the fact that life is there to be lived regardless of past trauma, but that sometimes we need some help to live it!

Excellent read! It was just what I needed for my book slump. The plot was imaginative and unique and I loved the voyeristic aspect, it was so titillating. I think other gossip lovers would enjoy this book. The humour hit me and I laughed out loud at the protagonist's awkwarness in her dialogues. Minus points for the bugs, I didn't enjoy that.
Also the fact that literally everyone the protagonist comes across goes to the therapist was quite implausible. However it didn't bother me much as I don't feel this book is to be taken too seriously despite the heavy subject matters.

I honestly don’t know what to think of this book. It made me feel… dirty? I enjoyed the writing style but did not understand the “comedy” at all. I’m coming to realize I don’t enjoy messy, unhinged main characters (à la My Year of Rest and Relaxation) and the inhabitable house itself made me uncomfortable. Overall it was a weirdly unsexy story.
