I was hesitant to start this because I go in blind, but I knew *enough* to know it's serial killers. I'm always wary when there's a lot of hype about a book as the last few overly hyped books I really didn't like.

That being said, Slone and Rowan are perfect. This story was perfect. I just can't get over how perfect it is given it's basically Dexter in love. As a Forensics major I really enjoyed all the gory parts because gore never really got to me and it's hard to find gore without horror (not that big into horror).

Oh, and the spice! THE SPICE! The book really did a good job of balancing the humor (accidental cannibalism, hiding the engagement ring in the eye socket, dragon furry cosplay, etc) with the actual story along with the spice was just *~chefs kiss~* I was sweating and figiting a few times while reading this and my husband really appreciated me reading this book lol

I'm so effing excited that Lachlan and Fionn are going to be getting their own books and Lark and Rose will be getting their HAE.

The way this book laid the groundwork for the following 2 books and how *fecking* beautiful these covers are, I really just cannot get enough nor can I wait for the next ones to come.

I loved this book! The banter between these two is absolutely hilarious and adorable. I laughed out loud multiple times. Their love story is so sweet but definitely has some spice too!
The book overall has some dark themes, they are serial killers after all. But it was an awesome read that left me wanting more! I can't wait for the next release from this author!

Literally one of my most favorite reads of this year! Easily a 5 ☆ book! It has everything: slow burn, comedy, dark romance, touch her and you'll die and so much more! I was already laughing when I heard the content and trigger warnings, and you know it's gonna be a good one when the warning page makes you laugh.

I found myself giggling and laughing the whole time, while also falling in love with Rowan and Sloane and feeling all their feelings once things started to click into place. They're romance was one of the best slow burns I've ever read, and once they finally hooked up, I was kicking my feet like a little kid 😂

They're some crazy serial killers, so of course there's going to be some crazy serial killer scenes, but you'll know within the 1st few pages if this book is too much for you.

Also, if you have the chance, get the audio book. It's 💯 worth it. Joe Arden and Lucy Rivers bring Rowan, Sloane, and the whole crazy serial killer story to life that's just *chefs kiss*.

If you ignore the trigger warnings, that on you… cause they aren’t satire.

This was surprisingly a good read. I mean it was out there, with serial killing serial killers falling in love. But it followed the normal contemporary romance formulas. The flirty banter was good. The tongue in cheek silliness was really what made this story stand out. It’s a book that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and I appreciate that.

I find it interesting how actual little we know about the pasts of the main characters. We got brief overviews, and the internal dialogue just lets us assume their histories or “SK origin stories” were bad, and moves on. I don’t know if that is enough for such defined characters or not. It was a little flippant, like an offhand remark, only it was both characters “why”.

Other than that, this was a great funny, messed up, dark romcom. The similarities to the show “Dexter” is obvious.

I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

Thank you NetGally anx Zando for an Advanced eReader Copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Boy meets girl locked in a cage with a dead body. Boy helps girl, treats her to lunch, and offers a annual competition to hunt serial killers.

Butcher & Blackbird was an amazing read! I listened on audio and my god! Joe Arden & Lucy Rivers were just perfect! I loved that they didn’t split the chapters and just recorded it simultaneously. The audio experience is a 5⭐️ experience on its own.

The story I rated 4.75 simply because I wanted a view of Rowan on a hunt alone. We were able to see this from Sloane at the beginning and I just wanted a quick peek as to how Rowan alone would be as the Boston Butcher. Also I was wondering why they were too emotional during the first and second kill, if there was an insight if this was actually how they act on their own I guess I would’ve been ok with it but it seemed that out of character and the timing doesn’t feel right.

Other than that I would love to reread this soon and hopefully we get the 2nd book soon. That epilogue was batshit crazy!!
