Growing up one of my younger brothers and I would watch the animated version of Charlotte’s Web at our Grandparents quite a lot. I sadly did read the book till I was older but that didn’t take away from the fact that it’s a great book. I recently decided to listen to the audio version and was not disappointed. It’s read by the author himself who does a fantastic job. A few years back I bought a copy of this book and Stuart Little at a book sale as I plan on reading both to my children/ nieces or nephews I have in the future.

I vaguely remember reading, or attempting to read, E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web as a kid. I was more of a fan of the animated film (which is apparently very true to the original material).

At first this book seemed pretty typical of juvenile fiction.. a fun story, easy/addictive to read, quirky characters, kid humor, and lots of illustrations. But what really sold me was the character Charlotte. I like books that don’t dumb things down for kids. Charlotte pretty much tells it like it is and isn’t afraid of using big words. I also like how this book doesn’t shy away from “controversial” and deep issues, like death, friendship, and selflessness.

I wish I had read some of White's other books as a child (Stewart Little or The Trumpet of the Swan) but I guess there's always time to discover and share great children's books. Overall Charlotte’s Web is a wonderful book that I hope remains a well-read and well-loved classic.
