Excellent, clear, and comprehensive overview of Marx’s humanist philosophy of alienation.

Really driving home for me how unnecessary the turn to Foucault, Deleuze, etc. was. A little dated, but that’s to be expected. I wish Meszaros considered more explicitly issues related to feminism, anti-racism, decolonization, and other struggles, and the short chapter he offers on the contemporary political issues leaves much to be desired.

Still, if you are looking for a comprehensive introduction to Marx’s theory of human nature (which is the indispensable linchpin of his entire philosophical system, no matter what Althusser claimed), this is an excellent place to start.
