This was a great sequel. It had been a while since I read the first book, but it was really easy to remember what was going on. I had fun going on all the adventures with Cole, Mira, and the rest of the adventurous group. There were plenty of surprises and a couple tough spots that made it plenty exciting. Between the unexpected revelations, the interesting characters, and the new types of magic Mull creates, you are sure to be sucked into the Outskirts, not to come back until the story is finished.

I'm not sure I love these characters yet as much as I have his characters from some of this author's other series, but the plot is really good. Definitely still provides surprises and the plot isn't formulaic or boring ever. Definitely recommend.

Man do I love Brandon Mull. His books just move along so fast that it makes them super fun to read. I take back what I said about there being too much overlap between Beyonders and Five Kingdoms for me. Reading this book let me know that that was fairly intentional, and now I love that Mull built in that overlap. I'm loving this series and am very excited to see where it's going.

I really enjoy this series! Mull does action so well and the world building is so interesting and complex. I tend to bounce around on series, but this is one that makes me want to read the next one immediately. My students love this series and I can't wait to promote this entry to my students this year. This series is great for late elementary and middle school students.
