From the title, cover, and synopsis, I expected Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side to be a light, fluff, read. Well, I was mistaken on that call. Sure, there are some fluffy bits, but, on the whole, this novel was something more.

Jessica was adopted from Romania as an infant. She didn’t pay much mind to that until a stranger shows up and called her by her birth name: Antanasia. His name is Lucius and he informs Jess that he is her fiance. Oh, and she’s a vampire princess of a powerful family. Sure, that’s believable. Now, what’s Jess going to do?

The romance in this novel is well-written. The story is told from Jess’s point of view and then there are letters that Lucius writes to his uncle as well. This gives us both perspectives. It isn’t insta-love at all and it takes a while for Jess and Lucius to admit their feelings. I have to say that, had Lucius’s letters not been included, I would never have bought the romance. They were very necessary.

I enjoyed Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side much more than I had anticipated. The characters were well-developed and acted in accord with their backstories. The romance was believable. The writing was wonderful.

My one complaint would be that it moved too quickly near the end. I would have liked more. It also took me a little while to get into the story as I wasn’t too intrigued at first.

This is a typical novel for teenagers - which is not a bad thing at all! In fact, although I stopped reading novels like this for a few years now, I believe that every now and then books like this one are amazing for relaxing and actually taking your mind off of things. I actually really enjoyed the plot which had quite some surprising turns that really lured me into the story which is nice because a lot of these novels are always considered to be pretty boring and simple - and I first cringed a bit at the title because it just sounds like one of those self-help books - but this one I actually found really interesting. But maybe it's just my love for vampires.

Not too terrible, but not great either. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to buy, but it is good enough to check out of the library.
I found the story rather bland. The beginning was amazing, and then about half way it started to suck and it never recovered. Jessica and Lucius never really dated or had any kind of true romance until the last chapter.

Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side was a fun read. I found this book to be really funny and entertaining. The odd love story between Jessica and Lucius was so sweet. Reading the summary of this book I was like the story might be kinda dumb. I was not disappointed with this book. The plot was simple and a little bit predictable. Despite all of that this was an enjoyable read.

If I thought Twilight had flaws, now I am definitely convinced.
Beth Fantaskey succeeded because she did not take herself too seriously and she did not turn it into a Harmony book.
A light, captivating, funny, sometimes bittersweet story.
Chapeau.

The characters have personality, they're detailed, their minds and toughts laid open and it's not just the old "I love you and I give up trying to stay away", the poor old sod Lucius would have killed to stay away from her(which he did), but I guess everything seems easy from the side of the keyboard.
