I really liked this book. All the different elements were great. The ghosts were either fun or terrifying. I particularly liked the scene at the mayor’s house. So fun! The romance was a good start. A little slow at first but definitely time to develop even further in the next instalments. And the multiple small ghost mysteries that tie in to the overall murder plot was well done and did not at all turn out like I was expecting. Overall just a great start to the series and an excellent introduction (for me) to this author. Am definitely looking forward to more.

I added a star because the story was entertaining for the largest part. The finale, though, was so annoying I am in a bad mood. The cranky ghost was over the top in the end and not believable in their reasoning. Why they suddenly showed up and became a main character, flabbergasted me for half the novel. The whole plot collapsed like a house build of cards. Lots of coincidences and convenient 'estrangements' and irrational behavior, closed of with the detective starting to spin implausible stories to explain it all, in the end.

Well narated.

brilliant

This is the second series I’ve read of Alice Winters and I honestly can’t wait to read more. I started this book tonight and ended up staying up to read it till the end. I absolutely love her writing style.
Hiro was just so witty I adored his character and he went together so well with Maddox and his grumpiness. The plot to this book was great so much suspense and I had no idea who the killer was through the whole book. The chemistry between Hiro and Maddox was hot and the sex scenes were just as hot. I loved that the book had lots of humour to kind of balance out the dark plot. I’m definitely going to be reading more of Alice Winter books. X

Listen, I love every book I’ve ever read by Alice Winters. In Darkness has always been my number one favorite series by her followed very closely by VRC and Hitman’s Guide and then all the rest tied for third. This book has replaced In Darkness as number one.
Well.
Maybe tied for first.
Yeah. It’s tied for first with In Darkness.
I adore Hiro and Maddox. They’re definition of Sunshine/Grumpy.
When I first started the book I was so happy to see it was over 400 pages. I love to get my hands on a longer novel from one of my favorite authors - you get to spend extra time on a story you know you’re going to enjoy and don’t have to worry about it ending too soon.
That was this morning.
From waking up, throughout work all day, and in between finishing up assignments, I was glued to this baby.
I laughed! I teared up! I was genuinely surprised who the killer was!
An amazing start to a new series and I’m so excited for more.
I’ve already pre-ordered book 2 so now the countdown begins.

Hiro sees and interacts with ghosts. His foster brother, Sean, was killed by a murderer who is continuing to kill, and Hiro is determined to stop him. Grumpy, sexy Maddox is on the case, and doesn't believe Hiro can see ghosts, until Hiro proves himself. But Hiro is too close to the case, and ends up in danger of being murdered himself.

The book is full of Alice Winter's zany sense of humor, but there's also a tear-jerking scene. Keep the tissues handy.
