“I have waited a thousand years for you. I would have waited a thousand more. You are my end and my beginning.”
❄️

I absolutely LOVE me a spicy fairytale retelling and the artwork on this baby caught my eye when I was looking through my search page on Instagram. And let me tell you this book is AMAZING.

I read a lot of books, I'm already at like 150ish for this year so quite often than not a book is "good" enough for me to finish it but, I have very few that actually stick with me. This one is probably the third to do that for me this year. This was the first book I've read by Beck and just wow. Her storybuilding, her characters, the writing, the spice. I just..speechless.

I cannot wait for the others in this series!

Everyone needs a Jökull in their life, honest to Gods.

I enjoyed this book even more because of the Viking/Norse undertones. As a practicing Norse Pagan and descendant of Ragnar/many Vikings I got such a thrill from that.

My heart was shredded, remade, and soared to the Heavens.

Overall rating: ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️/5 (I'm doing snowflakes instead of stars for obvs reasons)

Spice:

First of all, I love a beauty and the beast story, and Beck did such an amazing job with how she utilised aspects of the classic into her story. From the gold dress, the library, the pet hound, the hand’s maiden and the trusted advisor this book has so many tributes to the classic story but they are all made into their own.

I am a huge Beck michaels fan and devoured her 3 books in the guardians of the maiden series, but I love this book, I love that it’s more of an adult story with romance and a lot of spice! I enjoyed the world building and how the story was based on a classic but holds its own in its own story. I love the tale of the god of death and I love how the two main characters past is intertwined.

I also loved how it was a standalone in a series so you got your happy ending along with the beginning and middle. Overall I think this book is truely amazing and if you enjoy the guardians series I think you will love this book!

Oh my goodness I’m so glad I finally read this one! Jokull is 🔥🥵 The tension and banter between the main characters was so good! I was over here fanning myself with the way this man talked and did things. If you’re looking for a standalone read, check this one out!

"You are mine. Your soul is mine. Your life and every breath you take, every beat of your heart, and the blood flowing through your veins belong to me. And no one touches what is mine.”

I really enjoyed this retelling. it had me invested from start to finish and I loved the characters.
I've been missing my favorite enemies to lovers trope - and this one HAD IT. it had the dagger-to-throat, threatening to unalive the other several times. and I loved it. Sunnëva was such an interesting character and I loved how strong she was.
I'm not always a fan of slow burn but this one had all of the tension and build up that keeps me hooked and not wanting to look away.
I think my only complaints are that I kinda wish the Rune thing had a slightly different arc, but I can't really go into how bc spoilers, but while I think what we had was good, I didn't care for it. I feel like there was a missed opportunity for a stronger story, even if it would have included a love triangle. and then my second tiny complaint is that I think the pacing in the last several chapters went waaay too fast.
but overall: I really liked this. you all know I love beauty and the beast retellings, well here is another one I am adding to my recommended list. the writing was great, the pacing was good and I couldn't put it down. if you're in the mood for a spicy, enemies to lovers, slow burn fantasy retelling of Beauty and the Beast - you'll wanna check this out :)
