I devoured this series in the school library when I was a teen and reading it again gives me a keen sense of nostalgia.

Make sure you are in the mood for something dark before you start this book. You can trip into trouble easily in a town run by vampires, as our main character discovers. Claire gets on the wrong side of the most psychotic girl in university and it's only her first term. Things only escalate from there.

I read this ages ago, but had forgotten most of it, and could hardly put it down. I need to read the sequel like right now.

Just be warned: there are no Happily Ever Afters in Morganville, Texas.

Reread

This is such a comfort read for me, I read it in middle school and I will forever love, the characters. Does it hold up to today’s writing probably not, but I don’t care I still love it!

The theme for this month's Vampire Book Club was start-to-a-series. I actually have owned this book for ages but haven't had a good excuse to start a new series (hence this year's reading goal), so I welcomed this chance to finally pick it up. Straddling the line between YA and NA, would this be the start to a compelling series I'd be chomping at the bit to continue, or would these vamps leave me feeling stale?

Overall, I think this is the start to a fun and fast popcorn series. If you're wanting something a little melodramatic, action-packed, and twisty, with a sprinkling of teen romance, snarky banter, and bloody fangs, then you might want to check out this series. It may come off a tad dated with its reliance on the I'm-not-like-other-girls protagonist and cartoonish-bully tropes, and a noticeable lack of smart phones, but that also just feeds into its nostalgic charm. I don't know when I'll get the chance to come back to this series, but its a safe bet that it won't be too long from now.

This series is one of my guilty pleasures. A co-worker of mine introduced me to this series about a decade back. It pulled me straight in, and I keep on re-reading it even in my mid-thirties. This first book will always have a special place in my heart because it starts it all. And yes, as a lot of comments state, the characters don't always make wise decisions. But they're supposed to be teens, so duh! And it definitely makes for a page-turner, with all the unexpected (though at times silly) twists and turns.

It was full of early 2000s nostalgia and I loved every minute of it. It's a bit more on the late teen side which I didn't expect so that was a nice Suprise. Full of action, tension and mystery.
