Not my style of poetry, but like having this as another exemplar of that time and circles, especially from a non-European viewpoint, and as a historical document.

This epic poem is full of transitions between dawn and night, between the dusty local town in Martinique and the world, between nature and the body which resolve as one. I was struck by the cyclical nature of the poem and it’s significance to the modernist and negritude movements.
