Oh man. Carrie Ann Noble is a rare treasure. Loved every second of this book. I truly love how original her stories are. I was enchanted by “The Mermaids Sister” and then she went and did it again with “Gretchen and the Bear”. I will be reading “Gold-Son” soon and I can hands down say I will read anything else she comes out with.

Gretchen and the bear was a great book with many different elements in it. Fairy tales, cultural traditions, post earth failure, and futuristic technology. This book was a fun read.

Anyone up for a sci-fi, fantasy, fairy tale? Gretchen and the Bear is just that book. It’s set in the future, New Earth 170 where Gretchen is sent by her stepmother to find her 18 year old sister Ruby who has taken off. Gretchen needs to watch out for faerie folk and their magic.
I’m always up for a retelling and this one has touches of a few fairy tales. There are bits of Goldilocks, The Three Bears, and Cinderella in this mash-up which makes it fun to come to parts that are retold. There may even be other fairy tales in there that I’m not familiar with. It made for a fun story with great world-building.
