Ok, mirá, la cosa es así: es un buen libro? Si. Está bueno? Si. Es una tremenda pelotudez. Tipo, una increíble bldes de libro. Mis compañeras decían que les aburría porque "no pasaba nada". Y la verdad es que primero, si pasan cosas no sé qué onda estas pibas JAJAJ tipo entiendo lo que dicen pero.....Si, la historia es infinitamente básica y simple. Y ahí está la calidad de la escritura porque por más que es la historia más básica de la vida, igual es interesante y la prosa es muy, muy buena.
Pero.
Pero.
Pero.
El sexismo chabón. El fucking sexismo. Mirá, la verdad es que hasta se los iba a dejar pasar. Tipo eso de aclarar que las ganas de Mrs Harris de tener un vestido eran puras pelotudeces femeninas me rompió las pelotas, no te voy a mentir. Pero buen. Lo repetía cinco veces en dos párrafos y después me olvidaba. Seguíamos ok. El chabón que se enamora de la modelo porque le tiene ganas? No es original, me la banco. El chabón enojado porque cómo osa esta señora mayor mancillar el vestido que antes usó la chabona a la que tiene ganas? Ok si, ahí me re calenté JAJAJ pero ponele. La chabona diciendo que le gustaría dejar de conocer hombres más inteligentes que ella?......turbio. Ah no banca me olvidé de una, la chabona que pensaba "debería haber dedicado mi carrera a impulsar la de mi marido en vez de todos estas cosas que logré en mi propio rubro". Jodida esa también. Pero bueno, ponele.
La escena en la que la modelo prefiere quedarse a limpiar la casa de un extraño y piensa en que la única forma de ser una mujer de verdad es estar en la casa limpiando, y después se "enamora" de este chabón porque le conmueve lo fucking inútil que es y se muere de ganas de limpiarle la casa y tener sus hijos? Increíble, mágico, fantástico. Me cague de risa. 10/10 la verdad. La pieza de sexismo más ridícula que me encontré en mi vida, probablemente.
Ahora. El final. El fucking final. El final me dio ganas de quemar todo el fucking libro. Dejate de joder, forro. Ok, Pamela era vanidosa yvos la vida la castigó por osar mirarse al espejo. Genial. Completamente improbable pero,,,, tipo, posta, si me decías que se paró en el medio de la calle a ver su reflejo en un charco y la atropelló un camión quizás te la dejaba pasar pero,,,,, un fuego eléctrico porque frenó a mirarse al espejo??????????????????????????? En serio??????????????????????????? Tipo, esto es real?????????????? No, no es real, es ficticio porque vos sos el forro que eligió ser un forro. Anyway, Pamela, ponele.
Pero fucking Mrs. Harris chabón me estás jodiendo. De verdad te crees que me voy a creer esa pelotudez de que ella merecía ser castigada???????? Tan pelotuda te crees que soy???????????????????????????????? Nooooo, no chabón. La verdad que agarra tus pelotudeces sobre que necesitaba aprender el valor de la amistad y las experiencias y metételas en el bolsillo, pelotudo, porque no. No, y punto. Forro.

Flowers for Mrs Harris by Paul Gallico was an absolute gem; a new go-to comfort read!
You start your reading experience a bit confused by its little protagonist (an elderly cockney cleaning lady) and then, before you know it, just like the supporting characters, you fall in love with her endearing and caring ways.
I will say that Gallico pulls a fast one on us at the end that had my suddenly shooting up in my seat with utter distress but ultimately Mrs Harris warms your cockles.
A must read if you need a pick-me-up from what is in essence a gentle hug of a book.

This was sweet and light for the most part, an enjoyable short book.
Mrs. Harris is a London cleaning lady who leads a fairly unexceptional life. Until one day, when she sees a Dior dress in a client's closet, and she is gobsmacked. She. Must. Have. A. Dior. Dress. Even if she never wears it, merely to possess such a piece of perfection will, she feels sure, enhance her life immeasurably.
When she finds out how much it will cost, she sets about scrimping, saving, and gambling a little, trying to gather the funds.
Her eventual trip to Paris, her acquaintance with the staff at the House of Dior, and the significant ways in which they all touch each others lives, make for an amusing and sweet novel.

A fantastic, short read (though I took my time to really enjoy it). Some things you'll see coming a mile away, but there are a few shocks too. I found myself smiling as I read (and tearing up too). I wanted to read this before seeing the movie, but now I want to seek out the other books in the series too.
