Loved this book so hard. Sawyer Bennett is writing as Juliette Poe, and she keeps up her amazing story telling. This book was well thought out, and we get to revisit Wynot SC. The characters are hysterical, Laken really is the best vet, you can really feel the emotions of her and Jake. This story is told is dual POV.

I am really enjoying the Southern pace of this series. It's sassy and sweet, just like a good southern woman. A totally feel good story that makes you want to read this series all over again. I can't wait to see what's next.

Note, I did receive an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Barking up the Wrong Tree is the third book in the Sex and Sweet Tea series by the talented and funny, Juliette Poe. Girl, you had me at muscles and beard! I am loving this series and these fabulous characters. Juliette's writing is fun, witty, sweet and sexy. This family and these characters feel like home to me and I'm not from the south :). This story might be my favorite of the series so far! I love Jake and his muscles and Laken and her sassy mouth. Laken is attracted to Jake when she first sees him, but she thinks he's a sexist, city jerk, but she quickly learns he might be hard and manly on the outside, but he's soft and gooey on the inside. Jake isn't in Whynot to stay. He's not a farmer or a country boy, but when a baby goat thinks he's her mom, he's sticking around town. Being with Laken isn't a hardship either. He's wants her in his bed and maybe in his heart. What happens when sparks fly between the sheets, but you're from two different worlds? Will Jake and Laken compromise for love? I loved this story! It was refreshing to see the man want more and go after what he wants. Laken has her reasons for being afraid, but Jake isn't going to let her get away. I can't wait for more from this series!

"You are such a sweet kisser. Not like sweet as candy, but sweet as in 'the bomb'."

"You've been in my bed twice, Laken, and it was beyond fantastic for both of us. I expect you'll be back in it tonight, and that's not ego talking. You enjoy me as much as I enjoy you. But that doesn’t have to be all."

"Then I will be here waiting for you because you promised me nights."

Call me slow, but I’ve finally realized that when publicity says that so-and-so is writing sweet romances what they are saying essentially is that because the sex scenes are not described down to the last detail that the novel actually has room for a real story and not just a hint of one. Yay, because I happen to be a fan of reading real stories! So glad to have finally figured that out. 😉

Which leads me to Juliette Poe aka Sawyer Bennett’s latest installment in her Sex and Sweet Tea series, Barking Up the Wrong Tree. The first installment, Ain’t He Sweet, was reviewed on this blog back in April (but feels so, so much longer ago). And, somehow I missed the second installment. I don’t know how that keeps happening. 😦

I haven’t read any of Sawyer Bennett’s novels, but I love what she/Juliette Poe is doing with this series. I’m sure I’ve mentioned dozens of times that I am a fan of quirky and the town of Whynot, North Carolina is exactly that.

Barking Up the Wrong Tree centers on Laken Mancinkus, a veterinarian and one of the twin Mancinkus girls. She had a bad relationship back in Raleigh and has decided that her taste in men can’t be trusted so she likes to keep things casual. Except, Jake McDaniel, a guy with a similar pedigree to the guy who hurt Laken, doesn’t really do casual, and he’s very much into Laken.

Told from multiple povs, which work and don’t distract, Barking Up the Wrong Tree blends sweet and sad and funny well. For you animal lovers, dwarf goats are added to the mix, which is entertaining.

Having said that, I felt that there was a little something missing from this installment. Perhaps because it felt like Laken didn’t take her work seriously because she seemed to ditch it a lot? I have such a high regard for vets and their dedication that this felt a little off. I don’t know. Anyway, Barking Up the Wrong Tree is still well above average and well worth reading if funny, quirky romances are your thing.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I cannot tell you how much I loved getting to know Jake and Laken. They have such strong, passionate, witty, likable characteristics that made me giggle, swoon, and sigh.

Plus, goats? Who doesn't love themselves some sweet goats?

This little town of Whynot should be a stop for anyone looking for a good weekend read that is a perfect pick me up. Just like a refreshing glass of fresh sweet tea.

I have come to really adore the residents of Whynot, NC - especially the Mancinkus family. There is just something about them that are kinda family goals.

This is Laken's store -one of the twins in the family, and the local vet.

I like her. I mean, really like her. She knows what she wants and she isn't afraid to go after it - until what she wants wants more.

Jake is so not what we expect to find in Whynot, however her really does slide into country life - and Laken life - like he is meant to be.

I am not a fan of instalove, however I am a fan of the instalust and insta-attraction, and this pair has it by the bucketload. You can't help but be swept away with them as they tread lightly to maybe more.

There are a couple of scene stealers in this book, I don't want to give away much about them, but you will absolutely freaking adore them! If you don't, you don't have a soul lol!!

Jake and Laken's story quickly became my favourite in the series so far. I loved that we got deeper into the Mancinkus family, and Jake and Laken just had that something a little more than the other 2 books to date

Can't wait for the next installment of this series.
