I didn’t feel invested for a really long time. I found RJ abrasive at times when it didn’t feel like she needed to be. I understood where her character was coming from but it felt very much like she was creating unnecessary obstacles.

Lear’s past didn’t get in the way as much as RJ’s until her behavior made him not trust what was in front of him.

It’s a lot of people denying outwardly (and in RJ’s case inwardly) their feelings and then finally admitting them.

I really like the characterization of RJ and Lear from their first meeting as she's a type A lawyer who officiates weddings and went viral and does it as her side hustle, but doesn't believe in love or commitment after her last relationship. RJ and Lear have a wit and banter that as they continue to work together through the weddings start to fall for each other, despite the fact that they got off on the WRONG foot.
