I love it, I love it
I love it!

This is the kind of book of poems that you read reflecting on antiBlack racism, white supremacy, and capitalism!

I have never read anything that has made me feel more seen in good ways and even in bad ways. Even my flaws felt beautiful while reading this.

This poetry collection is fire. More than once, my jaw dropped is amazement at the brazen, confident prose. These pieces do not skip a beat, do not miss an opportunity to hold you close with sweet phrases and then knock you upside the head with a hard truth. This collection ends on a prophetic piece entitled "It Was Summer Now and the Colored People Came Out Into the Sunshine," which calls forth imagery of Black icons, ending simply with "It is time for war." Other standouts for me include 200th Episode of The Jeffersons, "Now More Than Ever," A Brief History of the Present, and Magical Negro #80: Brooklyn, though all of the poems are solid.

Honestly, I don't read poetry, but I liked Magical Negro. It was impactful. It was honest. I wish I was better equipped to articulate why I liked it, but just know that it was good.
