I won this in a Goodreads giveaway, but I also have started the series prior to this. The book before was one I enjoyed--not this one. I thought this was bland and I did not want to read about Covid not that it's nearing its end.

Back on Isle of Palms with the Rutledge family to shelter in place in 2020. Each of us has had unique experiences in this unprecedented year. It was so moving to read as these beloved characters navigate the pandemic and the challenges it brought. A special treat was to witness the relationships with the male characters evolve. As a die hard fan of the Beach House series, I loved this book and truly appreciate Mary Alice Monroe for working diligently to get this finished and published in real time as we are all still navigating the reality of COVID.

3.5 - This is a perfect beach read (from one of the Queens of beach reads) with a full cast of characters who are stuck in lockdown during the early months of the pandemic on the South Carolina coast. Monroe does a great job touching on all of the myriad challenges people faced/are facing during the pandemic, including lost jobs, financial troubles, separation from loved ones, death of loved ones, health scares, isolation, loneliness, anxiety, anger sprinkled throughout with humor and great heart. Recommended for fans of Love in lockdown, or authors like Mary Kay Andrews and Nancy Thayer.

Favorite quotes:
"Linnea felt that during these days of isolation it was all the more important to spend time outdoors...She believed the sun's energy could keep her inner darkness at bay."

"Every day is precious so let's be happy just living in the here and now."

The Summer of Lost and Found by Mary Alice Monroe
This story starts out when the pandemic hits and many travel to the island to ride out the storm.
Linnea takes in a woman who also lost her job at the aquarium. Before you know it she's taking care of Hope because her father is quarantining.
Love how she allows her to pick out what to eat and what to plant in the garden. Others arrive and she takes them in as well.
Things get a bit awkward because the house is so small...Like the different ages of people and how they are each surviving the pandemic in their own way.
Like hearing about all the relationships. Fun things in this story. Love hearing about all the animals and how they live through it all.
Received this review copy from Gallery Books via Netgalley and this is my honest opinion.

I didn't realize this was part of a series when I bought it. After reading some reviews here I decided to read it anyway since it sounded like it veered a bit.

I have to say I enjoyed the book quite a bit. Wasn't too hard to follow as the author did a good job of explaining the character's backgrounds and history throughout the book. There is also a map of the island and family tree in the front which helped to reference during reading. The story itself is nothing amazing but enjoyable enough. I don't feel the need to read the previous books and probably won't read #8 if there is one.

Fans of the Beach House series will enjoy re-connecting with the Rutledge family as they navigate the unknowns of the coronavirus pandemic. Linnea is contemplating her life after being laid off and she returns to the family beach house. The story explores the complexities of families and how individuals react differently to situations including quarantining/isolating and caring for sick family members.
If you are not ready to read a story with the pandemic as a backdrop, this is not the book for you-as there are many references to the virus and the 2020 shutdown. I do feel that added to the dynamics between the characters, thus creating a realistic and enjoyable story. 3.5 Stars
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
