“We’re all a little broken. We are a mosaic. We’re made up of all those we’ve met and all the things we’ve been through. There are parts of us that are colorful and dark and jagged and beautiful. And I love every piece of you. Even the ones you wish didn’t exist.”

I really thought that this would end up being better than Part of Your World, based on the first 50%. Alas, that was not the case here. I really appreciate the personal touch that this book had, and the author's note that went with it. I really liked the main characters, Jacob and Briana. The struggles that they dealt with felt very realistic: the anxiety representation and the struggles that people feel when dealing with a chronic illness was portrayed very well. These elements of the book, along with the letter writing and the relationship development, were some of the reasons that I was expecting this book to be better.

Now, onto what I didn't like...
Because of the dual POV, we clearly knew that the two characters liked each other. There was so much miscommunication in this book (it dragged on a little too long for my liking), and it all could have been resolved so easily. They could have talked it out much sooner than they actually did. Jacob literally asked her out! And he got rejected because of a misunderstanding that Briana had when she saw him earlier!  They literally moved in together; she heard so many people saying that they were in love and once all of this got resolved, she conjured up another stupid third act conflict days before his kidney transplant! It made me mad - because I knew it was gonna be resolved within the next 30 or so pages anyways. I also thought the letters would have a bigger role to play in the story as well, but that kind of fizzled out about halfway through, and then made a sort of reappearance at the end when she read his journal.

Overall, this book had a cute first half, and a disappointing second half, which made the rating of this book lower than Part of Your World.

Very cute. These characters feel like real people and not just annoying caricatures, and the third act conflict was very believable and didn't piss me off because it was rooted in an insecurity and wound that is very real and understandable

How scary to be so in love but still feel like you can’t fully trust because you are on different pages. Communicate communicate communicate! Real life issues were very well written, but definitely had some personal triggers so it was a tough story to get through. I think the middle started to drag a bit, but I couldn’t wait to find out what the conclusion was going to be, so it was ultimately a page turner!

THIS BOOK HAS MY KIDNEY (iykyk) 💕

Jacob's anxiety and Briana's fear were so real and palpable. You could feel the love and fear and heartbreak.

I barely have any words for this. It was so good. I can't wait to read more by Abby Jimenez.
