Cute and interesting. But I wish they could show women who don't all have it together. The male interest has his own coping mechanisms,  but if that was set up as a woman, it would not received well.

Rarely do I read a series backwards, but here I am. And I’m so glad the second and third books had nothing to do with each other. I hate it when I miss the connections from the prior books. So I’m a little confused about what makes these a series.

Anyway, I liked this enough. The writing was pretty good. The characters were likable enough - kind of - Jacob’s good heart was a little too hard to believe. What I disliked was the hackneyed trope of a pretend relationship. To say anything more would to open this up to spoilers, so I’ll only say that it’s one of my least favorite because they are so predictable.

The pace of the romance was off for me. These two were essentially rebounding, and I find it harder to believe that Jacob would donate an organ for Briana rather than just because he’s an organ donor. (Only people getting my organ donations are my immediate family, maybe my best friend, and possibly an anonymous recipient, but not ever someone I’ve only known for a few months.)

Last thing I’ll say is that the relationships in the book were a little too The Bold and The Beautiful for my comfort - no bloodlines mingled, but I found them questionably appropriate.

I am looking forward to reading the book that kicked off the series. Only nine more weeks before I get to the top of the line.

I’m mildly upset at how much I loved this because I put off reading it for SO LONG. I think the first thing that made me love this was Jacob and the depiction of his anxiety spiral. It was so real but never belittling. Then Briana’s worry about her brother’s depression and loving understanding kicked it up until the two MCs just made me completely fall in love with them and this story.

This totally shot up to one of my favorites of the year

The only reason I couldn’t give it a five star rating is because at one point the male narrators voice started to become annoying
when Briana gets really drunk at her friends house
and it made it difficult to take seriously. There is also a point in the book where Briana becomes very annoying
when she complains to her mom after finding out she’s pregnant
. Those instances made it hard for ME to give it five stars, but the story is very good.
