rereading the first book of the series that made me fell in love with reading was nostalgic ✨ although it was a little difficult to get into it in the beginning, halfway through i realized how the movie didn’t do this book justice 🪄

This was a great lighthearted book, the characters are just great, the plot is awesome. This book I recommend to any age, Jk Rowing just did fabulous on the first book of the series. The wizarding world is just so welcoming and amazing, this book is just such a good opening to an amazing, and loved series.

I love Stephen Fry's narration! It brings a whole new level of cozy to the experience as well as immersion.
Even though I don't approve of the author, I can still find comfort in retreating to the world of Harry Potter and escape reality for a bit. HP has a special place in my heart, and the books are beautifully written.

Full review is on my blog (https://www.bookycnidaria.com/harry-potter-and-the-sorcerers-stone).

Whimsical and mostly charming. The dialogue between the kids tends to be stiff and unconvincing and they all sound like miniature adults, but I suppose it is what it is. I am ashamed to admit that I found Hermione obnoxious as a child; she is my favorite character as an adult. (To be fair, she is obnoxious in the beginning, but for reasons I understand better in retrospect.) I LOVE reading about the general wizarding lifestyle and would not object to an entire book in which Harry does nothing more than go to school, without any interruptions from a certain needy Dark wizard.

Biggest problem: Hagrid, for reasons other than his size. Look, he's got a heart of gold and I love him for his genuine kindness to Harry and co., but it drives me insane that he creates a huge problem for himself, lets the kids clean it up for him, and then watches them take the fall without a word. That is absolutely disgusting, and it sets a pattern for Hagrid's general behavior that is replicated in some way in almost every book because apparently Rowling couldn't think what to do with his character and settled on caricaturing him.

Also, somebody please explain why Filch is supposed to be funny. Anybody who fantasizes about beating students with whips and hanging them by their ankles from the ceiling should not be allowed to work around children, but his hate-filled soliloquys are treated as comic relief because gender-affirming care is unacceptable but medieval torture is fine as long as it's intended as a joke??? Make it make sense, because it doesn't.

I haven’t read these since the first time over 10 years ago in school! I forgot just how fast paced and adventurous the first is despite building the world of magic for us.
