Cute, fun, and inclusive as all get out, but if the "You've Got Mail" descriptor leads you to believe this is an amonymous pen pal story I must sadly inform you that it is not. Still a highly enjoyable read.

At most a 1.5*
I did not like any of the characters in this story. They all felt very similar except the two main characters, Shoshanna and Jake, and not for good reasons. Shoshanna was a whiny, juvenile, 16 year old girl who works in a bookstore and isn't (but is actually really) judgmental of what you read if you even read. The whole story she acted like a 12 year old. She was incredibly rude and impulsively called people rude / mean (customers and co-workers) posted something online without her friends permission (her friend said she didn't want it to be posted EVER) everything she did and said just felt so immature for someone her age, even her moms told her she needed to grow up and stop acting like this. When ever there was conflict, even if it didn't involve her, she would always try to 'fix it'. Jake at the begging was a complete ass. He was rude, has no real 'want' to work in a bookstore and was just there for the money ( he told his co workers

Cute and very tame YA romance. Shoshanna is obsessed with her job working in a bookstore. She loves everything about it: helping people finding the perfect pick, creating interesting displays ("Murder Mysteries that end in W") and even stocking shelves. But then Jake gets a job too and things get uncomfortable and competitive (but of course readers will see the "from hate to love" trope a mile away).
Shoshanna is a likable character but her unwillingness to accept change get tedious at times. I do think students will enjoy the plot which provides a look into what a retail job might entail.
Grades 7 and up.

The first half of this book, so solid. I really enjoyed the first half. It was quirky and fun. The second half was a flop. The main character started to really get on my nerves. She started to feel less and less life like. And the way they wrapped up the plot lines was a little underwhelming.
