I took some sweet time to pick this book up. I've read the 'House of Night' saga when I was a teenager (and I really enjoyed it), and I was scared that this new (more adult) story would ruin the experience for me. It was not the case! This book did not disappoint at all...
I love the capability of P. C. Cast to create amazing worlds and very lovable characters. Shannon is so funny, so charismatic, so relatable and, at the same time, so strong... that is exactly what made her humane and loved by everyone. All the different characters have very interesting and rich backgrounds the make them unique and relatable to the readers... and that's the magic of P. C. Cast's writing.
I loved this book and I'm really curious to see what await Rhea is the next one (we know that Rhiannon will not give up).
P.S.: This book is great but I could not give 5 stars because, sometimes, Rhea is really annoying. Ok girl, we get it, you're 35, you are always hungry, drink copious amounts of wine, and you are always horny... sure! You don't need to tell us how you feel in every single chapter. We understand the your centaur-husband is super hot (and has a big pennis), that the food, and especially the wine, are the best you've ever had... just give us a rest, we get it.Â

This book is an old favourite - my copy is one of the first published version of this, under the original title Goddess By Mistake - and for that I probably have something of a soft spot for it. Shannon isn't my favourite protagonist but I do like her, and her opinionated, interested, slightly flaily, dedicated voice and self are entertaining and did make me like her. ClanFintan isn't my favourite love interest, either, but I enjoy their dynamic and he is far from the aggravating tropes I find so commonly - and commonly aggravating.
Parthalon is an interesting world and I enjoyed this book, though I've read little of the added-later series beyond it - only the second book, thus far.
