I find this story to be more horrific than Dracula. Everyone around you falling to terrible fates one by one because of your actions is terrifying. There is horror in the overzealous pride and obsession of humans circling around to haunt them and subject them to a miserable state where only death is the only rest they can receive. While fantastic it really is a universal story. The complex relationship between Frankenstein and his monster, and the pity you are made to feel for them both, is plenty to stimulate profound discussion.

I first read this novel in 2016. My re-read was this edition illustrated by Bernie Wrightson. These illustrations were so powerful in adding to the atmosphere, that I strongly recommend looking them up or obtaining a copy to enjoy for yourself.

I really like the language and writing style. I also like how the perspective changes. I found the premise if the story to be really unique and the configuration of it is really beautiful. The language and focus on emotions evoked sympathy for both characters. It followed the story of Frankenstein and the issues and emotions he faced as a result of being such an ugly monster - when all he wanted was to be loved. However, because of this, it resulted in him killing several people. Simultaneously, it also conveyed the life of the man who created him and viewed him as this monster whom he regrets creating. It creates the argument of whether Frankenstein deserved a companion and should be pitied or should he not be granted a partner and instead resented.

A classic famous for the creation of the sci-fi genre. It uses strong religious imagery to paint a picture of humanity and what distinguishes humans from "daemons" and higher powers. Seamlessly blends science, philosophy, and creationism. Although the gruesome deeds and persons lack greater detail, the light description allows the imagination to fill in the horrific blanks.
