I absolutely loved We! It is a fantastic work of dystopian fiction and would definitely recommend it for anyone who enjoyed [b:1984|40961427|1984|George Orwell|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1532714506l/40961427._SX50_.jpg|153313]. The imagery of the glass city is incredible and the characters are brilliant. The background of its publication and the context which it was written make the whole novel even more enriched with meaning - definitely worth a read!

تتبع الرواية مسارًا يوتوبيًا بادئ الأمر، مفارقة ذات معنى، شيء ما يتجلى تحت ظلال هذه الرؤية المثالية للسعادة، المنطلقة من خلال تحويل المجتمع الإنساني إلى أذرع آلية تتحرّك في تناغم: البؤس.
في رواية الساعة الخامسة والعشرون لقسطنطين جورجيو، والتي منعت في أوروبا لسنوات طويلة، يتنبأ الكاتب بسلالة من البشر أقرب لكونها آلات "إنهم لا يتصرفون كما يتصرف الرجل بل كما تتصرف الآلات، إن لهم مقاييس وأجهزة تشبه الساعات بدلاً من القلوب وأدمغتهم نوع من الآلة، فهم بين الآلة والإنسان، ليسوا من هذه ولا ذاك، إن لهم رغبات الوحوش الضارية مع أنهم ليسوا وحوشاً ضارية بل إنهم (مواطنون)"
هذه الرواية أشبه برؤية تمثيلية للمواطن، الذي حسب جورجيو انتفت عنه صفة الإنسانية. إنه مجرد آلة لخدمة الدولة الواحدة، عشنا "نحن" فما عاش أحد. وبذكر أن زامياتين كتب روايته عام ١٩٢٠ منذرًا بخطر وصفه النقاد قصيرو النظر، كما قال الكاتب، بأهجية سياسية... إننا أقرب اليوم لرؤية هذا "الإنسان-الآلة" خلال مرحلة التجنيد، تشرح المؤرخة الثقافية جوانا بورك عملية بناء هذه الآلة الوحشية:
"يجب أن تحطم فردية الأفراد ليعاد بناؤهم كمقاتلين محترفين، والمبادئ الأساسية لهذه العملية تتضمن تبديد الشخصية الفردية، وتوحيد الأزياء، وتدني مستوى الخصوصية، والعلاقات الاجتماعية المفروضة بالقوة، والانضباط بجداول عمل صارمة..."
هذه التجسيدات كلها ترد في رواية نحن، من البيوت الزجاجية إلى الأزياء الموحدة، والأنواط المرقمة، والحاجة إلى قسائم كتصريح لممارسة الجنس، حتى التأخير عن القاعات الذي يعرّضك لعقوبات صارمة لا ترحم، فأن تتخلف عن هذا البناء الجمعي، البيروقراطي، لهو جريمة بحق المحسن الذي يسوقك مرتعًا بالسلاسل نحو السعادة، فكما يقول: "يدرك الكائن أن المحبة الحقيقية الجبرية للبشرية إنما تفترض القسوة سمة ضرورية لصدقها، كالنار سمتها اللازمة أن تحرق. أرِني نارًا لا تحرق!"
وعلينا، في خضم هذه التداعيات لقيمة الإنسان في عالم تقديس الإنتاجية الرأسمالي، "والسعي وراء الأحلام وفقدانها، والدموع والمعاناة التي تلازمنا، والسباق من أجل البقاء، واستعبادنا كرهاً، وكابوس الهوية الذاتية الحائرة، وآثار الأسرة المختلة، والخضوع المطلوب لتحكيمات من الهراء، وإساءة استخدام السلطة، والتعليم المنحرف، والمعرفة العاجزة بجرائم غير معاقَبة وعقوبات غير عادلة، والصراع المديد بين التعقل والجهالة."
أن نتذكر دائمًا، دائمًا، ما قاله علي عزت بيجوفيتش "لا يمكن أن نصل إلى الكمال. ولكننا نقدر على شيء آخر: بأن نبقى أكثر شبهًا بالإنسان، وبأن يشبه كل إنسان.. الإنسان".

Bylo to moc zajímavé, nový pohled na věci a rozhodně je nad čím přemýšlet. Konec mi přišel celkem smutný, byl to vlastně takový uzavřený kruh, musím říct, že jsem to nečekala.

In OneState, everything is almost perfect. The Benefactor rules. The INTEGRAL is getting ready to take the poems and prose of the Numbers to the Stars. The Numbers exist in as pure an existence as possible, inside their glass world, safe and secure from all uncertainty. D-503 knows this very well. He is the Builder of the INTEGRAL and he begins recording his own thoughts, that they might be transmitted to the stars to bring the perfection of the OneState to all the other worlds. This process is smooth, unhindered, and as perfect as everything else, until D-503 notices I-330.
And that's the ethos of Zamyatin's banned novel, a work that undergirds everything we know about dystopias and about science fiction as the literature of political dissent. It's a novel that, when you read the introduction of the translator and consider its history, is broken into two halves and given to the English-speaking world by English authors as 1984 and Brave New World. We is the seed of them both-- the terrifying, all seeing, everything State that controls each non-individual down to the minute as well as the frighteningly tender impersonality of the world, leading to the growth of the soul as a disease and terrible, state-enforced mutilation as its cure.
Horrible and wonderful and should be required reading.

As the inspiration for 1984, I was eager to see what this book had to offer. While it is a good book, it is totally different from what I expected. Sure, it has the authoritarian state, but it is presented quite differently. For one, the book is a series of recordings or notes from the main character, D-503. These notes are presented from his point of view in a sort of rambling and disjointed stream-of-consciousness. I think it is very effective, but the the side effect is that the plot is hard to follow.
I won't give away the plot, but suffice to say We paints a very dark picture of human existence. If I had to sum it up, I'd say it is a sketch or impression of a dystopian world. An interesting read for sure.
