Art style is fine, story is fine, I feel like the more Witcher content I consume the less I like the Witcher

House of Glass is the first Witcher graphic novel by Paul Tobin (Story), Joe Querio (Art) and Carlos Badilla (Colours), and it was also my first ever experience reading a graphic novel.
Yes - that means that I am going into this review with very little frame of reference in regards to what makes this graphic novel better or worse than others.

*I read this as part of [b:The Witcher Omnibus|51194331|The Witcher Omnibus|Paul Tobin|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1562032414l/51194331._SX50_SY75_.jpg|61398461] by Dark Horse Comics.*

So yeah, I may not know much about graphic novels, but I AM a long-time Witcher fan.
Having not had new Witcher content since A Season Of Storms back in early 2018, I was very excited to revisit and see the world of The Witcher in a new way.
I knew this was not a product of Sapkowski's, him having sold the graphic novel and merchandising rights to CD Projekt Red back in '97, but that did not do much to dampen my expectations.

My first impression was that the atmosphere and aesthetic was spot on. The art and colour palette is very reminiscent of the first Witcher game, which I felt captured the Sapkowski's trademark Slavic dark fantasy elements the best.

The story told here is quite good too!
A mysterious house, a forest full of monsters, an evil curse, fantastic foreshadowing and plenty of Witcher signs.
It was a very traditional Witcher story and I think it made for a good introduction.
One element that I really appreciated was that some scenes were done with little-to-no dialogue. Anyone that is even somewhat familiar with Geralt knows that he isn't the most talkative of protagonists, but the ability here to convey tension, mystery and emotion over the course of just a handful of frames worked really well.
Again, this may be a thing that graphic novels on the whole do well, but I really noticed it here and it suited Geralt's personality very well.

I think with graphic novels I shall break my rating down into the three main components and rate them individually, as well as the obvious overall star rating. So here's what I'd rate House Of Glass...

Story: 3/5 - Traditional, solid, but nothing new.
Art: 4/5 - Very good. I liked it.
Colour: 4/5 - Atmospheric, but a little too dark overall.

I am certainly going to continue my way through these and I look forward to seeing what other types of stories can be told.
