Pretty standard dystopian story, nothing too terrible but nothing particularly great either. There was a lot of awkward exposition dialogue in the beginning that was kind of cringy to read, but that was mostly at the very beginning. A quick and easy read, and I don't regret reading it despite it being kind of meh. Also I did really like the art, so I'm more hyped now to read more of Molly Ostertag's stuff.

Honestly, not my cup of tea. I love Molly's artwork, and it didn't let me down, but story itself didn't do a whole lot for me. Maybe it's because I didn't really buy into the romance of it (
SpoilerI got pretty tired of Jann's repeated protestations about their romance because of class — like, you're living in apocalyptic times, class is a thing of the past
), or maybe it's because the story arc ultimately felt a little predictable — I'm not sure!

"Shattered Warrior is graphic novel full of aliens, rebellion, and love."

While this graphic novel does include a lot of tropes, the facts that 1) it’s the first sci fi graphic novel I’ve read and 2) Ostertag’s art is phenomenal saved it from being a 3/5 star read. Such a heart-wrenching yet hopeful story, and….. did I mention the art?!

Relatively simple straightforward story of fighting against alien occupiers. The art is fine, the writing is fine. The characters are a little bit too simple. Somehow the world is just missing a bit of a spark. Like there isn't the depth to make the book more then surface. Readable. 3.5 of 5.

This book was beautifully drawn.  Like many graphic novels, the art is what inspired me to pick it up.  The story itself wasn’t bad, but didn’t stand out as especially remarkable.  It’s a classic feeling sci-fi rebellion.  The main thing that disappointed me was how it was written.  It didn’t feel like Sharron Shin had adjusted fully to the visual medium and used dialogue in expositional ways that felt unnecessary.  Of course, perhaps this was a way to fit details she wanted into the page count.  The story did feel pared down.

In short, it’s not a story I’d jump to recommend, but the art is very good and the story enjoyable for what it is.
