Oh this one was not good at all sadly. The story telling was very absurd and the characters were very dumb and unlikeable. The storytelling was bad and took away all the tension because you exactly knew what would happen next. The setting and atmosphere but that's it. I thought that I would get a Rock Paper Scissor esque thriller but this one felt very flat.

Another fabulous Freida book! Every single theory I had was absolutely wrong. I never saw the twist coming and it had me shook to my core.

I know this book gets high ratings, so I’m willing to admit that perhaps it just wasn’t my cup of tea, (and that’s totally okay). This was my first Frieda McFadden book and I’d be willing to give another one a try just to have a basis for comparison.

I’m giving 2 and a half stars in acknowledgment of the fact that the “whodunnit” towards the book’s end was twisty and did catch me by surprise. But the characters were, for me, so unbelievable and unlikeable that I couldn’t even bring myself to care. Perhaps the twists would have hit much harder if I could have.

The beginning felt very repetitive to me with Tricia’s declarations of how wonderful her new husband was, and certain details of the story that were hammered home again and again. Now that I’ve read the end, I understand that these details were repeated on purpose to draw your attention to a particular place, and make you think one thing was going on, while it was really a wholly different thing altogether, a bit of literary sleight-of-hand, if you will.

Although, I give stars because McFadden pulled it off and I didn’t guess correctly, in part, this was because the characters’ actions just seemed so far fetched. Even if you account for the fact that extreme mental illness and psychopathy could account for seemingly incomprehensible and over-the-top courses of action that result in a domino-effect of terrible events, surely not all the characters in the book are this disturbed.

It seems the book wanted to venture into the premise that all human beings are capable of terribly dark acts given the right circumstances. Perhaps this is true, but the circumstances that caused these characters to give in to their worst impulses were, in my opinion, fairly low-stakes. (This was not the case for all of them), but was so often enough for me to find it highly unlikely and therefore lacking believability.

That said, it was a quick read. I was able to finish it in one afternoon with plenty of breaks taken, so if you’re looking for a fast-paced, thriller read covering the themes of psychology/Psychiatry, mental illness, a grand spooky house in the middle of nowhere, a stalker and blackmail and human beings behaving at their worst, then this book just may be for you, and hopefully you’ll like it more than I did.

To say this was my 1st ever Freida McFadden book and I really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed all the twists and turns in this book as it keeps the book moving and makes the book so interesting and intriguing. I really enjoyed the characters in this book as each character made the book that much more better as all the characters points of views add up to the big reveal at the end of the story which I didn’t expect at all. I had a person in my mind who I though the killer was and I was wrong but in a good way and the way the end of the books explains why this character turned out to be the killer was done so well and so good I liked the way the killer explain everything about why they did and what made them do it. The only down side to this book was I did keep getting lost in parts of the story and what was meant to be happing that’s my only issue with the book I wish there wasn’t so many povs but I understand why they was in the book towards the ending. I will definitely be reading more by this author in the future xxx

There's something about this that is off that's why I deducted a star. But, I liked how fast paced and exciting this is. The characters were sick and delusional which was interesting. The narrator was unreliable! Lol. I hate when that happens; why are you lying to me? 😝 Anyway, this was fun.✨

This was a good one! I thought it was kind of slow but had so many smaller plots within the big plot that it kept my interested. Oh my goodness the ending was something I never saw coming! I kept trying to figure out the twist but never imagined what actually happened, even though after I found out, it seemed obvious! It was a very sinister ending…

Maybe this book would’ve been better if the narrator for the audiobook didn’t give stupid voices to everyone. But also maybe not because there was only one collective brain cell between every single character.
