This book actually had me spooked at work alone when I started listening to it on the drive over lol. There were twists (plural) I did not see coming. I flew through it and really loved how everything came together! When I’m in the mood for a thriller, I’ll probably pick up another from this author.

"I believe that any human being is capable of terrible things if you push them hard enough."

I still can't believe I've only discovered Freida McFadden's writing this year, but she is quickly turning into a favorite thriller author. I immediately thought of her books when I was craving something fast and engaging, and I decided to pick up Never Lie next as I do love a good bout of bad weather to spice things up. I'm happy to announce that I once again ended up having an excellent time with her writing! There is just something about the way she tells her stories that makes them impossible to put down... Never Lie is told using a dual POV structure, switching between Tricia in the present and Adrienne a couple years in the past. On top of this, you also get transcripts of some of Adrienne's therapy sessions with her patients... Which were definitely a bonus for me. I liked both POVs for different reasons, and the building up of suspense is really well done. I thought I had it all figured out and I was disappointed for things to be SO obvious, only to be proven completely wrong when a certain twists put everything on its head. Very clever indeed! Things can be said about especially the last part being over the top and you definitely have to suspend your disbelief as well as being able to accept certain cliches... But if you can overcome this, Never Lie is without doubt a very entertaining and suprisingly twisted psychological thriller. Guess who is already looking forward to her next dose of Freida McFadden's writing?!

Wow. Creepy kinda vibes. Didn’t like the writing but did not in fact guess the ending (although I did guess some other parts of the book)

This is the first and last McFadden novel I’ll be reading. I disliked her writing and detested the characters. No one was believable, the therapist was unethical (even before all the crime), the therapy sessions were unrealistic,  and the main girl was obviously unreliable. The book also could have used a better editor, there was too much repetition and strange language choices. Also, we get it - you read a couple basic psychology articles - that doesn’t make you knowledge to quite a book from this perspective.

I guess something notable was that I didn’t except Tricia was PW and helped in all these murders. I was led to the EJ/Ethan conclusion, but since I found the whole twist incredibly underwhelming and bland, I think the obvious reveal would have been better.
