i think once you've felt grief, it's hard not to catch someone else's. especially when the person grieving is someone you love. or maybe when you've felt grief, it's hard not to love someone else who has too.
i had zero expectations and what a surprise it was.
it felt real but magical and it makes total sense because it's magical realism (lmao) but what i mean is that i was in the story, fully immersed !
the angerts and the o'donells are two families that hate each other, and maybe hate is a very strong feeling but it seems to be exactly what they feel.
june o'donell, also known as jack iv, is the last o'donell, after her father passed away, living in five fingers, a little town where "everything has to be big and impossible and legendary".
saul angert, the younger of the angerts, is back in town for unknown reasons.
one thing leads to another and as hannah, june's best friend, said "june, you were born to have chemistry with dreamy saul". now they, together, have to find a way to brake the curse that is haunting their families to be able to be with each other.
grief, friendship, guilt, love and... hate.
i blushed when june spent time with saul. i laughed whenever hannah made a joke. i cried about june's dad and saul's dad and abe and issa. i even related with stephen. i loved every single character and felt every emotion.

Mixed feelings on this one... there's some really beautiful, evocative prose in this, and I loved the fantasy elements. But I just didn't care about the star-crossed romance. My icy heart was unmelted. Someone who is less of a cynical black hole might like this more than me!

This is my fourth Emily Henry book and it definitely took me on a journey. I enjoy magical realism. Seeing memories from the past and how it's affecting the present was pretty cool.
This story is definitely filled with a lot of grief and loss. Please check trigger warnings if you plan to read this one. It was magical but at the same time dark.

I really enjoyed this! I feel like the first 70 ish percent of this book was soo good like five stars, and then the ending was not that good? Finding out like the reasoning for the magic and feud made this much worse personally? But yeah absolutely enjoyed it still
