This book was in a dollar sale at my local half-price books, so I picked it up, expecting a good quick read. I was saddened by the completely flat and dull plot and the utter violence. All in all, a thumbs down for me.

My daughter read this two years ago and she's been harassing me to read it ever since! It was a fantastic novel, exciting and took turns I didn't spot! I really enjoyed it. A quick, dark enjoyable novel.

An enjoyable quick, atmospheric read, not my favourite Marcus Sedgwick book, but I'd still recommend it for fans of his other books.

This book was let down significantly by the overly ambitious and completely pointless narrative switches. The characters were flat and remained undeveloped and the story was, on the whole, weak. The seting was confusing, and explained poorly, and the "Dark Horse" was never really mentioned other than in phrases such as "we thought they were just a story".
I have to admit I am slightly disappointed :(
