If men like that could learn the error of their ways, I wouldn't have to teach so many of them a lesson.

I was looking for something cathartic, and the book went exactly where I expected it to go. With a premise like this, nuance and subtlety aren’t exactly expected, but I did wish the main character’s personality had been more distinct and less hazy. It also stretched believability that she managed to evade consequences for so long, given some of her questionable decisions and how easily she was caught off guard at times.

That said I can easily see it translating well to a Netflix adaptation—slightly campy, diverting, and easily digestible.

Layne knows how to write but I have problems with the whole 'anti-man' culture. You can't convince me that every man around the protagonists were misogynist and abuser. Although I liked the short chapters and fairly first pace, some times the plot went all over the place. Everyone was kissing and fking everyone. It was too unrealistic in my point.

The ending was also a fantasy. None can get away easily from their karma.  Also,I predicted the big twist around the 20% of the book and it just spoiled the fun part for me.
Also I hated Allison. I couldn't understand Carly's obsession with her. Too frustrating in my point. But as I told before,Layne knows how to get in people's nerve through her protagonist and she succeeded very much.

Okay I love this genre of woman punishing men for their abuse, in the realm of Sadie and The Female of the Species, but this one being more new adult/adult. I absolutely did not see the twist coming halfway through
with Scarlet and Carly being the same person, and I was truly flabbergasted, slack-jawed, distraught even.
I knew that dumbass
red diary
was going to screw things up, but I’m so happy with the ending. They’re adorable <3 The audiobook narration was chilling.

First book in a while that has kept me up at night reading! So I think that's deserving of four stars. I don't usually read thrillers, but this one kept me captivated until the very end even despite if it sometimes feels a little tropey. Also the plottwist in the middle!!! I gasped out loud.

A little bit predictable in some places but an enjoyable read nonetheless.
