I loved watching the movie, but liked reading the play. I still enjoy A Streetcar Named Desire just a little more. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is southern drama to another level.

Damn! What a play! I saw a production of it about twenty years ago, but That production didn't do it justice.

I would do anything to stick the pollitt family in a little confessional and hear them talk shit about each other like a reality show.

Yep, that’s Superman in my wind shield. Was that a twist ending?! I am looking out upon the southern sky tonight. I’ve always seen the northern stars before. I may just have to back in to get a glimpse of those faintly wanting stars over Mexico. You know how close to the border I am?! 😅 I was driving my sweeper truck to Nogales for work.

The foreword by Edward Albee tells a funny story about Bernard Shaw: into his nonagenarian years, he did have trouble following his own plays.

Tennessee Williams had a sister who was terribly sick, she was institutionalized and Williams was torn by it. His sister was the first best friend he ever had. He thought he was gonna die, Tennessee Williams was a hypochondriac. He lived to tell stories, but his sister, Williams Muse and Schizophenric, did outlive him at 86. She had a lobotomy! Who decided that for her? Williams was outraged by it, and wrote quite garrulously about it. 🖊️

This play is one long continuous lecture. It must’ve been a snap playing Big Daddy: it’s one continuous sequence of charact’ry, Show it to Big Daddy, Show It… He’s one of those loud, proud, stentorian cats who always have somefing to say. But it is Big Daddy’s big bday bash today, and he’s had some sad news… he’s got a spastic colon! Margaret is knocked up! And Brick, Oh… but he goes off on Brick… maybe get power of attorney and cut him out of daddy’s estate. ⚠️

Brick: “But this talk is like all the others we’ve ever had together in our lives!” But it’s not, it’s Daddy’s birthday. Brick has the responsibilities of a papa. Big Daddy is gonna break Big Mama’s heart too.

Big Mama: “And I did, I did so much, I did love you!-I even loved your hate and your hardness, Big Daddy!”

I, too, am like a cat on a hot tin roof: I could jump and land on all fours, I can burn my hot paws staying up here. They say that nature hates a vacuum..

Some books are crafted so beautifully that you feel sad when you turn the last page. This short play took away a part of me. Crisp, emotional and beautiful. A good read!
