another mystery solved by flavia de luce. this time, the police are on to her and her antics as she meddles in yet another murder mystery. the inspector informs her father, who attempts to keep her in buckshaw despite her best efforts to solve an attack on a gypsy and a brutal murder of a man with a shady past.

this mystery was a bit simpler than it’s predecessors, in my opinion, but just as entertaining. i would argue that the cast of characters is even more entertaining in this third installment, and gives recognition to previous characters that make brief returns.

i can’t wait to read the next adventure that flavia gets to embark on, especially since this last book ended with the wondrous
Antigone, wife of the inspector, invited flavia over for tea. will she and flavia become close friends, even to the dismay of inspector hewitt?
