The most unlikable narrator I’ve ever come across. Millie has immense privilege yet no self awareness nor assertion. She probably has severe depression or BPD, so to some, this may be an accurate depiction of their experiences. To me, the narrative structure was lackluster: the writing confusing and so surface-level. Maybe that was the point of the character study. To show how all of our interactions are surface level and regurgitate what we want to know and hear ourselves. The relationships exhibited in this book were mildly accurate representations of complex female friendships. Despite its merits, I found this book HIGHLY unenjoyable and almost DNFd — which I’ve never done before — and would not recommend it.
Moderate: Body shaming, Confinement, Mental illness, and Abandonment
