This was a well balanced book in terms of character plot and historical plot. Also the amount of sad and happy moments were pretty even in this book as well. The book was nicely paced and I look forward to the next one.

Given that this is the 9th book in this series I can't really tell you a whole lot so I'll just say, wow. This one did not disappoint and I couldn't put it down. I saved this book to read while I was healing from surgery and it was perfect. I was able to escape and weirdly enough, parts of the story really helped with my emotional healing. If you are a fan of this series (which, if you're at book 9 I would hope you are), you are really going to love this one.

This book counts for Popsugar 2022 for a book with a misleading title.

I think Diana Gabaldon has an incredible way of bringing you back into a story, even if it's been a while since you've immersed yourself in it. I loved the effort spent on Lord John and William and the travels of Ian and his family. There was a lot more time spent with characters that I wasn't expecting to spend with, and I enjoyed that, which led to my 4-star rating.

As with all Outlander books, it's exceptionally long, has tons of historical moments that can be hard to keep track of, and is almost entirely character-focused (even when it's dealing with the plot, it feels like the story is only being moved by the characters rather than the other way around). But if you've been around for the last 8, there's no reason not to dig through this one as well.

I did hit a wall with reading it about halfway through because it was just moving so slowly, but the second half really picks up the pace and the action and, of course, in true Gabaldon fashion, teases the scene you've been waiting for for the whole book.

Content warnings abound! To the point that it's actually very hard to keep track of them all so just proceed with caution.

Very repetitive of earlier books in the series (like hey, remember that time we did that thing in book 3?) and a lot less stressful than usual, which means there was a lot less plot. Not sure if there's just too much affection for the huge cast of characters we have to keep track of at this point, but mostly lacked the teeth of previous stories. Also the first time I listened as an audiobook instead of reading, which could have colored my experience.
